About Katherine Daniels
For A More Effective, Transparent, and Responsive Town Government
Katherine is an attorney. She has been practicing intellectual property and media law for 30 years. In addition to her legal practice, Katherine has served on the North Salem Town Board since 2021. She is also a volunteer EMT with our Volunteer Ambulance Corps, chairs the Community Smart Leadership Team and the Capital Planning Committee. She is past President and Trustee on the North Salem Board of Education for 14 years and she served on the North Salem Comprehensive Planning Committee and Energy Advisory Panel. Katherine is Co-President of the North Salem Bridle Trails Association and former Trustee of the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library. Katherine is a former lay leader of St. James Episcopal Church and sings in the choir. Katherine is a member of the League of Women Voters ERA Task Force and is a Board Member of Allied Community Enterprises, which provides affordable housing in Westchester County. Katherine recently became a volunteer with Neighbor’s Link.
Katherine is married to Josh Leicht, a former prosecutor and current compliance consultant. Josh serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for the Croton Falls Fire Department. Katherine’s sons, Jake and Ben Leicht, are U.S. Air Force officers and pilots.
Katherine enjoys horseback riding, running, hiking, skiing, biking, diving and other outdoor activities. She has lived in North Salem since 1996. “I’m running for Supervisor because I know how our town government works, and I’m committed to bringing our community together to make it more effective, transparent, and responsive.”
Katherine is well prepared to assume the office of Supervisor. Katherine and her team secured over $300,000 in grants to make efficiency upgrades to town buildings, including the installation of solar panels on the Highway Garage. The panels will generate enough electricity to power the Highway Garage and up to $14,000 worth of additional power annually that will be credited toward the electric bills in other Town buildings.
The Capital Planning Committee, which Katherine also chairs, has developed a comprehensive schedule of the Town’s capital assets and is in the process of developing the Town’s first formal Capital Improvement Plan. The goals are to do a better job of identifying, prioritizing and scheduling the Town’s investments in infrastructure and facilities (roads, water and sewer systems, public buildings, parks and equipment) to ensure that each project aligns with community needs and to coordinate financing and debt issuance to avoid fiscal shocks and spread costs over time. Katherine was also instrumental in convincing the Board to invest in municipal accounting software to improve efficiency and transparency in budgeting and fiscal management.
Asked why she is running, Katherine said: “I am very good at bringing members of the community together to participate in the process of town government to make it more effective and efficient. I have a proven track record as a Town Board member and a deep, practical understanding of how the town and, more specifically, the supervisor’s office should work. I also have the trust of the North Salem voters who have elected me twice.”
